The Retail division of VINCI Construction UK has been awarded a £15.5 million contract to design and construct an 80,000 sq ft store for Tesco in Hanley, Stoke on Trent.

The Format 80 store will include staff facilities and customer restaurant located at mezzanine level. Car parking is to be provided for over 600 cars and the project also involves construction of a new petrol filling station.

Prior to construction, a large cut and fill operation needs to take place to bring the site to new formation levels.  Part of this process will include consolidation of weak soils, remediation of contaminated soils and investigation and treatment of disused mine workings and shafts.

The contract also includes the construction of a new dual carriageway link road, three new signal controlled junctions and widening of approach roads.
