William Morris Gallery to be revamped by VINCI Construction UK
VINCI Construction UK has been appointed by the London Borough of Waltham Forrest to carry out a full refurbishment and restoration of the Grade II* listed William Morris Gallery.
The £2.5m contract involves the sensitive restoration of the existing eighteenth century house and the addition of a new extension to support the delivery of a new and engaging programme of heritage events and activities. Once the project is complete, the gallery and its facilities will have been completely restored. This will provide a better environment for visitors to fully appreciate the wider selection of Morris’ work in their enhanced setting.
The extension will comprise a new gallery space which will be used to show a variety of other artists work on a rolling basis. There is also a café for visitors to take a break and enjoy the views of the surrounding park. Within the existing building education suites are provided for the use of school groups and other interested parties.
Gavin Taylor, VINCI Construction UK Building Division – South’s Managing Director commented:
“This is a fantastic contract win for VINCI Construction UK - we’re particularly looking forward to the challenge of working on a Grade II listed building and the privilege that comes with working on a building housing such an important collection of art. We will be drawing on all of our experience whilst working closely with the London Borough of Waltham Forest to ensure that all works are finished to the highest standard.”
