The Grenelle Environment Forum in France, the Climate and Energy Package in Europe

New laws and bills are creating powerful momentum in France and in Europe. This is very clearly an unprecedented opportunity for VINCI's business lines. As concerns low-energy buildings, the market has all the necessary components to apply the Grenelle and Climate and Energy Package commitments, but is still too fragmented. VINCI is responding to the challenge by creating synergies between its business lines (energy, construction, roads, concessions) and creating value by acting very far upstream of projects to take environmental impacts into account from the design phase and reduce costs over the whole life cycle. The Grenelle commitments also constitute an opportunity for VINCI in the transport sector, with environmental upgrading of motorways and expansion of rail transport, which require concession-construction expertise in complex projects and multi-technical systems.  In this movement that will completely transform the sector, VINCI has the responsibility and the privilege of being a front-line player – a highly motivating role.

VINCI and REACH

The application of the new European regulation on chemical substances, REACH (Registration Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals) mainly concern VINCI companies as downstream users. VINCI subsidiaries have initiated a proactive approach with suppliers in each European country involving discussions with suppliers of the products and substances used to ensure that these products comply with the new regulations and will remain available for use by our subsidiaries. This discussion enabled us to take another look at management of the risks related to use of chemical substances and identify the most environmentally friendly substances. REACH was also used to launch a major campaign to raise management's awareness of environmental risk.
