In Cambodia: a Global project contributing to local development

In Cambodia, SCA, the VINCI Concessions subsidiary that operates the three airports, is contributing $2 million to pay for government-led studies and work to help develop the tourism environment around the Angkor temples, which are served by the Siem Reap airport. This initiative extends the partnership with Artisans d’Angkor, an organisation that trains and employs about 1,000 traditional craftsmen in 11 villages, supporting around 5,000 families by revitalising traditional Khmer craft techniques.
Still in Cambodia, VINCI gave a €70,000 grant to the NGO Sodeco which aims to produce biodiesel from the seeds of a tropical plant, jatropha. Planting this species on 10,000 to 20,000 hectares of land that is unsuitable for any other crop will create a carbon sink and produce 10,000 to 20,000 tonnes of biodiesel to run electricity generators in place of diesel fuel. The solution has been tested locally with the assistance of the French company Éco-Carbone.

In the United-Kingdom with VINCI PLC

VINCI Construction's UK subsidiary is actively engaged in the community and with local people. Some of its employees are regularly involved in collecting funds for a variety of causes, such as races organised to raise funds for cancer research.
For 15 years, VINCI PLC has been supporting Community Links, a non-profit organisation in East London set up to help children, teenagers and adults in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. The company provided financial support to employ specialised social workers and participated in annual fund-raising for the organisation. This year, employees were asked to donate toys for its Christmas appeal. HR managers also organised a Business Day to help young people find work. Another VINCI PLC company, Crispin & Borst, offered work placements in trades such as decoration, masonry and woodwork.
One of VINCI PLC's goals is to encourage greater participation by its employees in fund-raising and community relations initiatives, such as helping unemployed people. This encouragement can take several forms, from giving employees time off to participate in the initiatives to boosting their annual profit-sharing bonus.
In 2008, one quarter of VINCI PLC employees were involved in some form of community aid.
