General interest initiatives

ISSA

The Sogea-Satom Initiative for Africa (ISSA), created in 2006, encourages civic engagement on the part of Sogea-Satom (VINCI Construction Filiales Internationales) employees in community projects benefiting local people in countries where the Group has worksites or manages agencies.
ISSA was set up to support community actions initiated by Sogea-Satom worksites, the aim being not to replace voluntary activities already organised by these worksites, but to launch new, complementary initiatives likely to contribute to development of local communities and regions, matched with appropriate funding.
ISSA has an annual budget managed according to very strict principles and procedures.

One worksite, one project, one project leader

The actions supported by ISSA must be initiated and directly managed by Sogea-Satom employees. The "project leader" is responsible for making the grant request, ensuring that the operation runs smoothly, monitoring the budget, paying the service providers and drafting a final report. The funds are paid exclusively to the worksite or agency responsible for the project. They may not be paid to a middleman – NGO or nonprofit – nor directly to the project beneficiary.

24 projects in 11 African countries

The selection committee is composed of 11 members and chaired by Richard Francioli, Chairman of VINCI Construction. It meets three times a year on average. Since its creation in October 2006, five selection committee meetings have been held and 24 projects funded, for a total budget of €280,000.
These initiatives in 11 African countries have enabled construction and renovation of schools, purchase of medical equipment, drilling of wells and installation of toilet blocks in a refugee camp.
